Bravo One U-Bolt

mechanic snapped off one of the studs while tightening u-bolt .is it safe to use until it is replaced ?

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,.... It should be replaced 1st, as the gimbel ring will wallow, 'n wear if not tight,....

thank you for the reply. purchased new gimble ring, waiting on mechanic to install .just wanted to make sure not a safety issue.

It is safety Bondo said ". It should be replaced 1st"

If it wallow's out it could even crack and then steering is gone. Imagine running and the steering breaks

Reminds me of years ago, I, a fledgling boat mechanic was checking the torque on the u bolt nuts one time. Owner/boss walks by and says to "be very careful, I snapped one of those off once, torque spec is a lot lighter than you would expect."

Spec is around 50 lb/ft iirc, would think it'd be more considering the importance of steering, that plus age/years of non tightening makes for easy break
