Hello All

Have a inlaw with a 99 Mariah 242 Shabah with 350 Mag w/ Bravo One outdrive. This past weekend the power steering pulley broke apart causing the belt the get thrown and engine ran more than a little warm. Melted wiring near through the hull exhaust which finally killed engine. Wiring and pulley problems repaired however the exhaust pipes for through the out drive got hot enough to apparently melt lower shift cable.

I just changed lower shift cable in 2 Alphas and was wondering if this was a similar job or much worse or what? I followed MercStuff.com's direction on alphas and they were both a breeze to replace and nailed adjustment perfectly. But there is nothing on replacing the Bravo cable only adjusting it.

Have I got myself in over my head or what?

Thanks Lawrence

http://www.boatfix.com/merc/Servmanl/11/11covr5x.pdf

here is a link for a bravo service manual

you have some things like exaust flappers that have to melted as well as the other rubber parts between the risers and the y-pipe

the hoses are real boat sinkers if you let them fail

and exaust flapper parts cause all kinds of problems if they fail and fall in the exaust system

tommays

Re: Bravo One Lower Shift Cable Replacement

Thanks for the link Tommays. Its just what the doctor ordered. The rubber couplers that are just above the Y-pipe do show signs of melting on the inner parts where they contact the metal pipe. The flappers are something that hadn't crossed my mind yet. Thanks for the reminder. After 6 hours of wiring repair and pulley changing while being bounced around by every boat that blew by us at the motel's dock, I wasn't on top of my game to say the least. I intentionally left my tools at the shop because this weekend was for relaxing not working. Yeah Right!!
Thanks again
Lawrence
