My friend tried to change gear lube in his Bravo One outdrive for 7.4L Mercruiser (I believe it was build in 1995-1996) and I volunteered to help him. However, first thing I noticed, there was no deep stick screw on the top of the upper unit and there was no drain plug on the bottom of the lower unit. I thought that gear lube is distributed through the drain plug in the bottom of the lower unit. First filling has to go to the plug in the upper unit and then to the lube reservoir. Could it be that the outdrive is aftermarket (it has Bravo One Mercruiser stickers, but no gear ratio stamp). And if it is aftermarket, how do we add/replace gear lube? Thank you
P.S. When I spinned the prop, I noticed some rattling noise in the prop shaft bearing area. My buddy said that in lower gear this noise is much louder and comes with some vibration. I think that his prop shaft bearings could be damaged and he needs to replace them. But I never took this part of outdrive apart, so Im not very familiar with the working of this mechanism.
