Bravo III Wiring

Hi all, hopefully someone has a simple answer :)

I have a (new to me) Formula 31 with twin 6.2l's and Bravo III's.
The previous owner replaced the throttle/shifter controls with (no-name) controls with separate shift and throttle. For some reason, he installed them backwards. This meant that the angle of the throttle at idle was really awkward and the trim controls were facing the side of the boat (so, not thumb controlable). On top of which, the wire he used to thread inside the controller to the trim switches corroded and shorted out.

After re-orienting the controls and rewiring with decent wires, I'm trying to connect it back up to the pumps but I can't get them to pump. The trailer switch (separate from the trim/throttle control) work fine. I get 13.5V when I measure the green/red or the purple/red but if I cross the wires (or connect to the switch), the pump doesn't fire up.

Am I right in assuming that since the trailer switches work that the pump and assembly are all okay? And since I'm getting power through the wiring to the helm, that should be okay as well?

Am I wrong in thinking that I can simply cross the wires to test the trim pump?

Thanks!

Is the stern drive in the full up or full down position right now? or in the middle somewhere?

If the trailer up button seems to work then the pump itself should be working fine, but maybe it's the trim up limit switch is set at a position that it won't allow the drive to trim up a bit more as you test things out... That or the trim limit sensors mounted on the outside of the boat to the mercruiser gimbal ring trim limit switch has gone bad internally or not connected up somewhere...

Are you able to lower the drive?
