I did a search but did not find anything just like this. The trim on a 1999 bravo 3 will only raise the outdrive a few inches. The trailer switch will raise it all the way without problem. I moved the port side trim adjuster as far as possible but got very minimal improvement. A friend with an older Alpha one told me that he always uses his trailer switch to trim up. This boat is fairly new to me and I am not sure how much "up" trim to expect. Am I right to expect the trim switch on the throttle to move the outdrive up to 45 degrees or so? Thanks Granpa

hello
kinda what tommays says
the trim limit is there to protect from stupidity.
the distance from the trim ram anchor points are set. the trim limit switch insures the drive cannot be "trimmed" beyond this point. the trailer function is just that. for beaching or pulling up the ramp.
tell your friend he is a fool and adjust the limit swith to the specs in the manual.

Thanks for the info. How much trim movement should be expected on an average outdrive? This one is literally about 2" from full down position. Does that sound right?

You really need to get a service manual for your drive if you are going to work on it. They are really way too expensive to screw up when you don't know what you're doing.
Mercruiser Manuals

Here is the information from the manual on adjusting the trim limit switch.

Don, I agree with you and I do not consider myself a great wrench turner. I'm just trying to determine if there is even a problem. It just doesn't seem like that little bit of movement is right. It wouldn't have any effect on the attitude of the boat while running. The boat has trim tabs so it is not a big deal, I'd just like to know if it something that I should have a mechanic check out. Thanks

Grandpafish----I have driven several B3s and they do not trim near as far as the Alpha. They can't, if they did, the rear prop would spin in the air.

Even the Alpha is only moving a few inches to trim up. I would never hit the trailer button on a newer rig while under power. I used to do that on my old 1977 drive, but they move A LOT slower.

All you have to do is trim it up as far as it will go using the trim switch only, then measure it and see if you have the 21-3/4" dimension. If you don't, then adjust it till you do or have it adjusted.
But checking with a tape measure will answer the question of rather you have a problem or not.
