Bravo 3 shifting stiff. Cures?

The boat is a 2004 Rinker 232 Captiva with a Mag 350 and a B3. I had a shop replace my bellows back in April. They installed a new shift cable to the Bravo 3 outdrive. They said they backed the boat in the water and tested the shifting. I've had it out 7 times since the work was done. The first 5 times out everything was great. 2 weeks a go the shifting seemed a little stiff: I had to push the lever harder than I used to going from neutral to either forward or reverse. It wasn't that bad so I never looked into it. This past weekend I think it's slightly worse.
There's no delay going into or out of gear. No noise or vibration; it just takes more effort than it used to.
I disconnected the lower shift cable from the bracket on the engine. With this unhooked the shift lever moves very smoothly. Hardly any resistance at all.
Is there something I should lubricate or adjust on the lower cable or do I just need to take it back to the shop that worked on it? I realize that's probably the best approach but it's a 200 miles round trip that I hate to make if I don't have to.

With motor running and lower shift cable removed from shift plate, can it be moved by hand with little effort FWD/REV?
If it can lower is good, and problem is the throttle handle or throttle shift cable

there is no required lubrication other than between the plastic slide and the metal guide on the end of the cable and that is to really just prevent anything getting into the cable. three months and seven trips should not constitute a stiff cable

i would verify the cable routing and if it is good perhaps ask the shop if they use oem parts. i know anything besides oem bravo cables iv'e definitely had issues with

Disconnect "barrels" at shift plate and see if (in gear and running) OD shifts OK. Just a guess.... But, at least you removed part of the system and can test them independently of each other. Have you checked OD fluid for contaminates. Shops make money fixing broken parts.
