We are the new owners of a 99 boat with a mercruiser bravo 3 outdrive. We just recently figured out that it has the wrong props. (28p) We are looking for a pair of 24p props. My question is about the prop diameters. Are all bravo 3 props the same except for pitch? Are there any other sizes, etc that need to be taken into consideration? Thanks Granpa

Re: Bravo 3 question

When we first ran the boat it felt sluggish and we could never get above 3750 rpms. The "book" on it is 4400-4800. We actually tracked down the info from the original sale and found out that it had 24s on it when new. That makes perfect sense if you do the math. I have no idea how it came to have 28s on it. The guy we bought the boat from appeared to like to run with the beautiful people. Maybe he spotted the props on some of the muscle boats on Long Island and wanted to keep up with the look. I know it sounds unlikely but he was a strange guy. A thorough inspection of the outdrive shows no damage internally or otherwise. Best guess would be that he somehow damaged the originals and found the 28s somewhere along the way and just threw them on. Of course, they also could have been stolen, but you would think that insurance would have led him back to 24s. At any rate we will shortly have a set of 28s for sale. They are in perfect condition. Thanks for your response. The entire I/O setup is new to us and we are learning as we go. Granpa

Go stainless 24P you'll be fine. Prepare yourself for the cost.

Re: Bravo 3 question

Thanks for all the input. Today we located, through a friend, a brand new set for $670. That is a lot of money but in the land of SS props, it looks pretty good. I'm hoping that the sale of the 28s that we have will offset the pain a bit. <br />Rod, I have become aware of the corrosion problem and will be keeping a close eye on it. The boat does have to mercathode but I understand that they are now recommending that you should have two of them installed. That doesn't sound good. Anyway, thanks for looking out for us as we forge into uncharted (for us) waters. Granpa

Re: Bravo 3 question

That's only $335 per. That's very reasonable. I don't beleive you have any choice in material. Merc is the only source for B3 props and they are all stainless.
