hi everyone

i have a searay 240 sundancer and would like some advice on a couple of probs
1 =where the steering goues through the trandsome there is some salt water crystals visable , i guess confirming a leek through the steering pivot pin,
there is no visable water encroching into the bildge, it has been like this for at least a year , there is also about 4mm of lift in the drive on this pinion but no sideways play whatsoever , can this wait till the end of the season or should it be acted on strait away, also is there a grease nipple for it , i cant visably see one

2= have recently had the gimble bearing replaced due to a noise/vibration
the noise has gone,"bearing drone ,like a car wheel bearing".
but there is a vibration on hard full lock .
the uj has absolutely no play in , but the drive leg didnt come off particually easilly and getting it back on wasnt as easiy as it has been in the past .
the vibration is speed dependant , hardly noticeable on tick over but 2-3000 clearly audible as a vibration more than a knock ,
could this be all due to a alignment problem or could there be anythink else it could be ,

all responses welcome
thanks ali

Re: bravo 3 problems help req.

in response to the the following problem i had with the drive leg .
i have the i have had the boat looked at by an enginer and the problem
seemed to be the pivot point for the steering had exsessive up/down
moovement causing the drive shaft to be out of alighnment
the engine was pulled ,transome sheild stripped and rebuilt .
the mesured endfloat originally was about 4 mm
the book spec was 0.3-0.5 mm so oviously well out of spec !
there was some noticable vibration all the time but when the steering was on full lock
i guess this magnified the problem , hope this post might help some in the same situation.
please post if you have had the same problem .

The problem you had is somewhat common.

About the only thing you can do to try your best to prevent it from happening again is by keeping the two gimbal ring u bolt nuts tight or (retorqued) to specifications, But keep in mind doing this is still no guarantee that it will hold up due to certain types of boating uses & conditions.
