My bravo 3 started to delay going into forward from neutral today. Reverse is fine, but when it’s shifted into forward on occasion there’s a half second delay before it starts to go. Any ideas?

"IF" your using good quality gear lube, then its the sliding clutch getting glazed

The extended fix is to remove the clutch and take sand paper to it, then put back together. This can last a few more seasons before the shift shaft and clutch will be replaced

@tpenfield just did this on his

It’s mercruiser hiperformance gear lube with 7 hours on the lube and 150 on the drive.

it did it twice today and works perfect other than that.

With only 150 hours, I don't see the clutch being the issue. Most likely just need the shift cable adjusted or replaced and adjusted.

Does the lube get changed every season

Yes, the gear lube is changed every season. And a new dual bank charger was install this week, something could have been bumped in the engine compartment that knocked a cable out of spec.

My money would be on water in the gear oil. Worth a check and prove me wrong.

Can I just pull the drain plug real quick and see if the oil is milky without having to refill the drive completely?

Yes, don't even need to remove. Loosen enough to see if you get anything other then clean lube

Pulled the screw and it’s dark green oil, so that’s good. Now I just have to hope it doesn’t leak around the screw since I removed it….😞

Change the gear lube,
Pump a whole lot of grease into the shift linkage duct,
Do a lower cable adjustment (using the Merc. adjusting tool)

Then see if it shifts better.

Your signature says Bravo 1 and the thread title says Bravo 3 . . .
