Just replaced the gimbel bearing and both u-Joints on a 2001 Bravo 2 and we noticed a chattering noise when turned full left. When the steering wheel is move slightly back to center the noise goes away and also we do not hear the noise if the drive is moved to full right. It's only in full left position that the noise is heard. What could this be??

SWAG here (scientific wild a*s guess). Take a look at your transom plate steering gear. Full turns either way normally cause driveshaft/gimbal bearing noise. Since yours only occurs at hard left, when the steering actuator/ram is full in, there may be some looseness or unwanted contact that is causing the rattling.

Thanks, will check this tonight. I assume when you say "steering gear" you are in reference to the power steering actuator inside the boat.

Its probably the bearing and only does it to the left because that direction has a bit more load then the other do to prop rotation. Prop turning clockwise

When was the last time alignment and inspection was done?

wrong gimbal bearing , or gimbal bearing not fully seated or wrong u joints, U joint cap not seated correctly

I feel the gimbel and ujoints are correct and OEM. Installation should be proper and well done. I have all the gimbel tools. This afternoon I just fired up my boat.......with an Alpha one Gen ll and to my surprise it does the same thing. If turned all the way to left there is significantly more noise than when it is turned full right if I rev the engine. Maybe my son's Bravo 2 is OK. You know how it goes. After doing a job and testing your work you listen more closely and worry more about what you did. Maybe reving the engine in neutral when turned all the way to the left is not the thing to do!! I think things are fine. Time will tell.
