Hi All

My current set up is:

2006 Maxum 1800 SR3
Mercruiser 4.3l MPI, 220hp
Alpha 1 Gen II, 1:81 gear ratio
Mercury Bravo 1 prop, 48-831912 24P, 4 blade stainless
Max RPM = 4450 rpm @ 52 mph (on boat speedo)

I tried a bunch of props and have been happy with my Bravo 1, except I want go down in pitch a bit to bring up my rpm.

My concern is that I have heard that the Bravo1 prop is too big of a prop to run on an alpha 1 out drive.

Has anyone heard this before, and should I be concerned?

I don't want to shorten the life of my out drive because of a "too big wheel" on the back.

Let me know what you think.

Thanks

Ayuh,.... If ya drop pitch, yer goin' to a Smaller wheel....

It's irrelevant that the prop also fits a Bravo 1.... It'll also fit a large gear case outboard too...

Re: Bravo 1 prop on an Alpha 1 gen II too big????

Thanks BondO

I am concerned because I have been told on m ore than one occasion that the prop is too big for the alpha, meaning it bites to hard and creates more stress on the gear case.

I may be wrong, but I think reducing pitch on this prop does not change the diameter.

Cheers
