lake_time_2

Bronze material makes a very good prop.

There is nothing wrong with them.

The reason you don't see them often is they are expensive. In the sixty's, bronze props were common. I have several on the shelf.

Just make sure it is the right pitch for your motor and go for it.

Is it a two blade prop? If so you will find that it does not have good thrust upon take-off, and depending upon the weight of your boat you may not be happy with it. It would be a good spare. If it is a three blade then go for it!!!

Good luck,

Gold Bear ;)

Re: Brass (or bronze) Props?

99% of all big inboard boats have bronze props. Stainless and aluminum are seen mostly on small craft...outdrives and outboards. Probably the practical reason is bronze will not take much grounding without bending. Stainless is king for that. The goodside of bronze is it is very easy to repair and you have more latitude in repitching or resizing. Stainless is a good bet if you are "sandbar" cruising. Bronze for clean water.
