Hi,
I just bought a 2005 mercury 3.5 h.p. 2 stroke engine as a left over from a well known store. I really like the new engine , it starts easily and has all the power you need for a small boat.
There is one problem it has a fast idle and really jumps when put in gear, in fact after using it for a couple of times it broke the shear pin with out hitting any thing.
I removed the cover and found a carb. that looks like nothing I have ever seen before. The throttle is linked by brackets that end in a rod going down into the top of the carb. As far as I can see there is no screw to adjust the idle. If any one has an idea of how to adjust the idle I would love to hear about it.
Bill

Idle speed is controled by spark advance on most small motors ck for a stop screw on the stator plate
