Guys... any clues..

It has only done it 4 times.. mostly starting int he morning when the engine has NOT been tilted the night before. ie Oil therefore runs towards the head end of the unit.'

I think its either the rings are not seated in properly yet.. since i only have 10hours on the engine.. all easy breakin was done.

OR it is a faulty valve seal

Any suggesitons VERY much appreciated

Oil smoke at startup is generally not a piston ring ring problem. Oil does not get into the cylinders past the rings when the engine is off. It can however get past the valve guides and seals. If oil was getting past the rings it would smoke all the time and the engine would likely be down on power due to lowered compression..

My BF50 would smoke on a startup when it was brand new. That went completely away.
Cold oil level is best below the maximum line.

I agree... not a ring problem.. so I hope that its just the valve guide seals bedding in.. since it has about 10 hours on it.

Oil level is 2/3rd up the stick.. dealer did have it almost overfilled so I took out a pinch to lower it to 2/3rds

I guess time will tell

many thanks for your input

I guess time will tell and I hope it does not happen again over time.

By chance.. know the factory warranty on these?

many thanks for your input

Should be gone by 20 hours.

thans... hope so. will keep an eye on it.

it only happens when in left for a time after a run in the down position. ie gives oil time to run to the head top end and sit around the valves
