granted your talking to an old<sic> marine mech. (not much in pwc's) how does this brake system of which you speak work.....

similar to an air brake on an airplane. flaps that open and disrupt water flow increasing drag.
not so sure I would want them on a ski as when you power down you lose control.

My ski has a reverse bucket that I could engage if I had the nerve.

I believe that some of the newer models use the reverse bucket to a minor degree, without any driver input. I also believe that this method is only engaged when the throttle is quickly released...as in a panic situation.

Just a guess!

not flaps... They use the reverse bucket partially down. Seadoo (and maybe other) have some little fin thing that also can automatically drop down for off throttle steering..

The system is generally computer controlled, as dropping the bucket down by itself doesn't do anything. There has to be some throttle input to be effective.

thanks everybody,at least now i have the concept to wrestle with...for decades people have been running into stuff because of poor judgments or actions or both and not this comes along and convinces them no matter how ill advised the stunt they are doing,somethings gonna save them...hum, what a country...jmo.
