I am looking for information on cost of repair and maybe the actual name of the part that a repair guy is calling the "brain" on my Johnson 175 ficht motor.
any help would be appreciated. I just don't want to be ripped off on the repair bill.

What is the year of that 175hp engine. Prices vary on the design.

The major component of the ignition system is called a powerpack.

the motor is a 97 or 98 I can't recall for sure.

One such power pack for a '98 is $259.00. Depends on your exact year/model though.

Don't all Ficht motors also have an ECU that is the equivalent of the computer in a car? My 2000 225 has one, and it went bad due to overheating from faulty cooling jacket design, and a BRP rebuilt one was $695, new was close to $1000.
