i was wondering how much difference these have on the performance of a outboard.i have a 1990 120 evinrude pushing a 22ft starcraft islander that is used mostly for trolling.and it trolls excellent never loads up or fouls plugs.i read a lot about these reeds and would it be worth paying a mechanic to put them in what advantages would i gain if any.or maybe it would be dumb to fool around with a motor that runs so good?
scott

Steelhead...I don't know that with that heavy boat you have you would see much of an advantage going with Boyesen Reeds...tho on my 800 lb aluminum boat with the same motor I was able to gain about 400rpm. The motor has a jet pump and with the best preforming impeller I could only turn 4600rpm...now I can reach almost 5000...just a Thought

Hi Steelhead

I have installed Boyesen Reeds on 150hp OMC's with typical increase in RPM's anywhere from 150 to 200 RPM's. The idle characteristics also improved along with improved gas milage. If you decide to go with the reeds, make sure the mech is knowlegable on the installation. The reed cages need worked down dead flat and sometimes idle air jet changes are required.

Good Luck.... :D :D

How much are the worth?? wouldn't mind picking some up for my old 100 if they are not to expensive..

I've used them in motoX before to great effect.. so if they are as useful on OB's then i'd be happy.

rgds

Franki
