Finally got to assemble my Merc 2000 40 HP 3 cylinder 2 cycle today with the new Boyesen reeds. Previous speed and RPM: 5010 RPM @ 38 MPH (GPS)<br />New speed and RPM: 5160 RPM @ 38.8 MPH (GPS), improved idle and much better midrange acceleration, fuel consumption unknown at this time. There were fluctuations of RPM from 5100 to 5200 and 38.3 to 39 MPH. But the average seemed to be 5160@38.8. On a good cold day I was lucky to get the 5010@38 before the reed installation, today was humid and about 85 degrees and these were the numbers I got for just a little 40 HP. Next is the full conversion to 50 Hp with the 50 HP carbs. I would imagine the new reeds would do wonders for bigger motors.

I have the same motor and was wondering what type of boat you have your's on and what type and pitch prop you have. Mine is on a 16ft War Eagle duck boat and I've been thinking about trying to get more speed out of it but, I'm not sure about my rpm's becuase I don't have a tach.(tiller handle)
