Currently have a 25' bowrider, everyone in the family loves it for its roominess on deck (wrap around U shaped seating, 2 captains chairs, bow..boat can actually hold 12 people), ability to sit in the bow, and even get a nice view forward as the boat is underway. 21 degree deadrise cuts some Bay "chop" well most of the time, but choppier waters still prove for a wet and bumpy ride.
But, I am considering upgrading (if that's the right word) to a Cruiser (with berth, permanent galley and head), of slightly larger size (27 or 28 feet). I'd like to get the family to do more day boating to an actual destination and dropping anchor (instead of day boating for the purpose of just tubing and sightseeing while underway), with a place to get out of the sun, a decent head (for kids and the wife) and a tax-deduction for me (can't do that with the loan on the the bowrider).
I have one child and a wife who are more apprehensive about boating in the bowrider (when it rocks between waves) than other family members are and I am looking to get something they can be comfortable on as well, so that the whole family can go boating all the time, instead of some or most of the family, some of the time.
Concerned about the lack of deck space available (can only carry up to 9 folks) on nearly all of the various manufacturer's cruisers, no matter where I look (I can't afford a 30+ Cruiser financially and space-wise at my home bulkhead either). Also concerned about the "ride" in a Cruiser vs. a bowrider (which normally cuts the "chop" a little better due to its sharper V hull).
I am not looking to venture out to the Ocean just yet.
Comments welcome from all.
