Greetings All

Is there a ratio for the bow wench to boat weight?

I have a 600lbs wench and the vessel that I am trying to wench on to the trailer is 900lbs. There are no rollers on the trailer, only bunks.

Thanks

Baston

be safe and don't have gears stripped. get a bigger winch. especially with no rollers. you never know when you will have to dry load it.

A "wench" is a lady with questionable morals. A "winch" is used to pull things. Sorry -- I couldn't resist.

You can reverse the terms and be almost correct as well.

Ayuh,...........

I found me a Winch Wench a few years ago,............. Life Is Good..........:D

Btw,.......
I kinda disagree with the Weight Limits,......
'Cause, You're trying to Drag the boat, horizonally, a few feet,.....
Not to LIFT it.........

I see no reason to have a Winch rated to the Total Weight of the Boat........

i've had to of those small winches strip the gears, as long as your on a good ramp you will be ok. but there are some you just can get in properly, and have to drag the boat completely up the trailer. i've used a lot of seldom use ramps, that silt in and the trailer will sink into the silt. i've had to disconnect and move the tow vehicle up the ramp, then winch the trailer out, and dry load, the boat. but those are the really good fishing holes no one knows about.

Look at it this way. You can probably move a pallet or large box around by hooking a chain and clevis to it, and pulling it. If it is a large enough box, you probably couldn't lift it, yet you could still pull it. For 900 pounds, a 600 pound winch would work fine.
But, if it is not, you just need a pulley. Attach the bow hook to the pulley, and the end of the line to the winch post. Put pulley between winch and attach point on winch post. There, you have just used mechanical advantage. Second grade physics.
