Hey everyone I'm new to both the site and boating. love this site btw

The other day after getting my 18ft bowrider on a ez load roller trailer I took it for a test run and ono my way home some @ss backed out into the road infromt of me after stopping some what fast the boat pushed the bow stop forward like 8 inches and the rollers came up over the transom.
I'm going to take it to the lake this weekend and move the post back and tighten the bolts on the clamps . my questions would it be a bad idea to drill a hole and place a through bolt through the trailer to stop the two clamps from sliding back again?

pics need pics, with the POS trailers that are out there I just do not feel comfortable telling you yes that would be fine. 80% of the time I would say yes or even better go to a welder and have him weld it in place for $30. Having it welded would work 99% of the time.

why not try a blank u bolt and washer and crank that bad boy extra tight one infront of the bar and on in the back. kinda like double nutting a bolt thats a pain in the butt to get to just for extra coverage. you can pick up u bolts with plates and nuts at any local autopart store. or if you ok with it use some thread all and bent your own.
also another idea is to have a bead welded in front of the u bolt but not on the u bolt. just incase you have to move the unit for whatever reason. you never know. from previous experiance its better to not weld it unless your 100% sure you will never need to move it ever again. ever ever ever again. not fun trying to remove a good weld bead.

Never depend on the winch stand to stop the boat in an emergency. Install a chain with turnbuckle from the bow eye to the trailer frame.

That is hard to look at for me. I am just thinking that cannot be how the trailer manufacurer (and bowstop manufacturer if it is a procured item) intended it to be mounted.

I mean, leaf spring shackles? Trying to clamp sideways and not down?

Was it always like this?

Don't you use transom straps? if loaded correctly this should have never happened! Also any time you see rusted hardware like those replace them or your asking for trouble! Plus that's not even a solid mount those four bands with drilled holes are substandard mounting hardware for to stop or hold up to the force of your rigs size take it to a welder and have him fab you some tabs the width of the base of bow stop on both side and weld them to the tube.

I had transom straps on it thinking it would have moved more if i didn't but when i put the boat on the trailer it was hanging over the last rollers by a few inches but when I stopped fast it moved forward bring hte transom straps with it...
I like the idea of adding the chain to the frame and the bow hook...

there is an iron shop down the street I will see what they say about welding some tabs so i can bolt it down rather then from the sides

Agreed that the one posted in the picture by Thalasso is the way to go. Whatever that is that you have now is junk the way it is.

I have one on my trailer that is like a square C tube that is one peice and bolts on to the tongue the same way from the sides and it is also junk. I've been looking for a replacement but haven't found one yet.

Just take what you have and weld a thick plate on the bottom drill some holes and bingo you got it.

Naw, the whole thing is junk. Can take the winch and pull sideways and get the whole post to twist. It doesn't move at the mount. Very flimsy.

When you relocate your post make sure the transom straps are vertical to the transom eyes. This will help prevent the problem you had. If they are vertical they won't let the boat slide forward or backward.
