I always trailer the boat. When retreiving the boat I do not drive it up the trailer. I can back in far enough to guide the boat up to usually within 2 feet of the stop guide then hook the winch and reel it in (pretty easy). My question is, in your years of experience, when retreiving your boat should the position of the winch be high as to pull the boat up to the stop guide or should it be low as to pull the boat down to the stop guide? The reason I'm curious is because when I reel the boat in tight against the stop guide, hook up the safety chain and pull out to strap the transom straps on, the boat seems to slide back about an inch or two and I have to re-reel it tight again. Is this normal or am I doing something wrong? Is it better to have the cable style or the strap style for the winch? As for the trailer, I've replaced all the rollers, bunks, winch this year. Sorry for all the questions and thanks for you help.
