The shank of the bow eye on my 17' closed bow runabout broke sometime while towing her back from vacation and I am replacing it with one exactly like the old one (see http://tinyurl.com/akpl6 for what a new one looks like). The shank on the old one simply broke off right where the shank enters the large eye part. Luckily, no real damage was done to the fiberglass hull so it's going to be a fairly easy repair/replacement job of simply removing the broken shank from underneath the bow and putting the new bow eye in from the outside and then securing it from the inside.

My question is this...what should I use as a seal on the hull around the bow eye? It's above the water line so it's not like it has to be a perfect seal. There was silicone around the edges of the old bow eye before. I was thinking maybe Marine Goop would be a good choice. ANy other suggestions?

Thanks!
