bouncing tach

i have a 1992 90 hp johnson v4 and the tach seems to lose power from time to time. it doesnt appear to be the retifier as the votage checks out ok. the wierd thing is that when the tach quits if i push in the choke on the key the tach bounces right back up. any simple fix to this??

When the tach starts to lose readings intermittently it it is usually an early sign that the rectifier is failing.

but if i check the output when the tach is not working, and it shows over 13 volts, isnt that a sign that the rectifier is working properly??<br /><br />thanks again...brian
