I have a 1984 Champion. Had the fuel tank out to replace the bilge pump, after putting the fuel tank back in and hooking up the wires to the sending unit the fuel gauge bounces from actual fuel in the tank to empty continuously. This went on for the rest of the year until the gauge finally gave up and wouldn't read at all. I had the gauge replaced and the new gauge bounces too. I assume it's the sending unit. Does this make sense to anyone out there? Thank you in advance for your help.

Re: Bouncing fuel gauge

Check you connections, might be loose or corrosion. The sender is not a difficult change. I just removed one from my old tank.
