I just picked up a 1999 Chris Craft 210 cuddy 5.7 volvo duo prop. runs good and is very clean. when I got it home the engine hatch would not work? I hear it turn on for one second then nothing? wondering if the pump is bad or maybe low on fluid? it was working slow when I looked at the boat. Anyways overall the boat is nice cannot wait to take it out with the family. you guys think Chris Craft are good boats?

Re: bought a boat

Yes, in terms of brand reputation Chris-craft is towards the top of the pile.

usually hatch lifts are mechanical, not hydraulic. So, see if you can get the hatch up and do some diagnostics. You may have to buy a new lift mechanism.

Battery is dead more than likely, plug in shore power, turn on the charger,it should charge,if not bad battery/bad connections. Most have a deckplate that con be opend up and disconnect the lift ram to manually lift the hatch, they are heavy! Then block up with a good strong stick, some have a alunimum leg just for that purpose.

Re: bought a boat

this has a handle I can lift it up and down manually (really heavy haha). I guess it is probably tired and needs replaced. can you just replace motor or do you have to replace entire peice?

Re: bought a boat

I have not seen just the electric motor as a replacable unit. So, you may have to buy the whole lift mechanism. Plan on about $300. It is always best if you can see what brnad/model is there currently and get the same/similar.

You can Google your way to the various products available.

Re: bought a boat

thanks I was playing with it yesterday and it will work without the weight as soon as I put weight back on it it stops. Guess it needs to be replaced. I am currently buffing the boat and it looks great. Now I need to wax it any recommendations on a wax that last and works well?

Nice looking boat, Sir. Congrats on the new toy.

As far as wax goes, make sure it has good UV protection. I like Meguiar's waxes and polishes for any of my toys care. I just picked up Meguiar's Flagship Premium Marine Wax. I know alot of other people will have their brand and recommendations, but I'm a creature of habit.

Re: bought a boat

take it to a local shop or someone who rebuilds electric motors. the same place that rebuilds alternators in town can likely do it. it will most likely be rebuilt to a higher quality than new.

as far as wax, collinite is the best i've used.

thanks for the advice saved me from buying a new hatch lift for $350. Found a local shop that repairs alternators and starters called them sure enough they will rebuild and even carry some rebuilt ones in stock.
