Hi People.
I have a 18 ft trophy that im going to keep at a slip this summer , the bottom isnt painted and i plan on taking the boat out of the water every couple of weeks to gas it up. If i were to clean it every couple of weeks do i still have to paint the bottom.
Thank David

Re: bottom painting

I'm probably in the minority but I believe all boats left in the water need paint. Gelcoat is not water proof. Paint is One more layer of protection, and the newer paints do not build layers like the old. Also some evidence that painted hulls are more efficient than unpainted. Just my opp. Bill

Re: bottom painting

Bill is right, Gelcoat is not waterproof. But neither is bottom paint. The Epoxy Barrier coat that you apply first is the waterproofer. The bottom paint is the anti-fouling agent. Best of luck to you.
