Re: bottom paint

Why are you painting it if it was kept on a trailer? Was it painted previously?
Are you looking at an anti-fouling paint or something to make it look new again, such as awl grip?

You should be able to get the info you need from this link.
I have a 25' on a trailer too. I don't want to tell you the way
I'm going to do mine because I'll scare you off - I want to
encourage you. Remember you can spend a lot of time, and
money on a paint job, or not so much. I would recommend
Interlux VC performance epoxi as it is hard paint for a trailered boat. Make sure you familiarize yourself with saftey precautions.
Boat paint can kill you - never sand without total protection.
Never use products with isocyanates without a fresh air in-duction resperator system. A good prep job, and good products
makes the finish. Go for it - you'll be proud of yourself, and take
more pride in your boat, and probable get a better result. Don't
hesitate to ask for more advise. Good luck

Re: bottom paint

Awl grip is boat paint that is used for restoring the appearance of a boat when the gel coat is no longer able to hold a shine. Look at the pic of my boat in my avatar. It is painted with awl grip.

Re: bottom paint

Truck bed liner paint is too rough. Just get the bottom paint thats designed for it. Trinidad is about $100.00 a gallon.

Re: bottom paint

VC performance epoxi is designed for trailered boats at $200.00
per 2, gal kit. You don't need an ablative paint if you only keep
your boat in the water for a week at a time. Nothing marine is
cheap. The reason your paint job is failing is probably because
whoever did it before didn't want to spend the necessary time,
money, or effort.

Re: bottom paint

I actually keep it stored at a launch and go , I only have it in the water when I'm on it then pull it out and leave it trailered. It's my first boat so I am learning as I go. Thanks for all the help everyone.

Re: bottom paint

If you don't actually leave the boat in the water why bottom paint it? If you are doing it to restore the looks that makes sense. But if you are putting Antifowl on that isn't nessicary.

My last two boats had bottom paint on them when I bought them. I removed the bottom paint but the surface had been etched and needed a lot of work to get it back looking good. Decided just to put a hard anti-foul back on it and forget it. I used Fiberglass Bottomkote? NT for this application.

You can use NT it to paint over just about any paint and there is no special prep required. At the time it was something like $80 a gallon and I got 3-4 years out of an application. If the paint showed signs of staining, I just rubbed the paint down with a wet sponge and it looked like new again.

Re: bottom paint

Why bother doing anything? It's not hurting anything the way it is so just leave it. Once it's in the water, the fishys are the only ones looking at it.
