Howdy again!

Now that I have my Whaler in top mechanical condition I can focus some attention to creature comforts.
I have already installed a todd single leaning post and am super happy with it. I picked up a SS 13" Wheel today, I also bought a Todd steering console, it fits Length and width but is so tall it looks funny. I cant decide is wind protection is more important than staying original.
Anyway I am looking at getting a Bimini top, any suggestions on size and type, The Whaler is a 16.7 Bass boat, it has rails installed for a MIA top that is 62.5 Center to center. Im thinking of about 4 ft high and 6 ft long, they are adjustable 60" to 65" I think.

Also, the original steering console is all holed up and cracked from 30 years use, if I dont change it what can cover it with? I was thinking gooping the holes, sanding and either painting or applying some sort of coating. I havent been able to find any self adhesive material to cover it, I guess paint is the only option???

MS,

Most Bimini's are adjustable to width. The product description should tell you. Most important-if you plan on standing up while driving make sure you have head clearance. The bimini dimensions given are the height from the top of the gunnels where they mount.

Both Cabelas and West Marine have good selections.

Console can be patched with fiber'd bondo, sanded and painted w/ good marine arylic or enamel. Be sure large holes are stabilized or patched first.

Re - Bimini - how do You use boat (do you stand or sit, will determine needed height). 6'length is nice, but if think about the longer 8' - keeps you and passengers out of sun. Again what do you really want top for (sitting/cruising)?

Consider hard mounting poles (rather than straps) at the back for support (an advantage w/ taller/longer units). You can flip back and leave it 'out of the way'.
