1976 OMC 120 HP outdrive. What is the proper tightening torque for the water pump and swivel housing retainer bolts, they are 1/2" Nc bolts? my seloc manual says 30-36 lbs but seems pretty light torques for what they do.

With a bit of sealant on the threads those bolds are good at that touque, the most of the load applied is when you turn your outdrive port or starboard. When you have to change your pump impeller we dont want to crank them any harder the necessary to loosen when taking them out. Thats what I torqued mine too.

they're threading into aluminum so you don't want to over-torque them.

Thanks very much for the info. i guess the thread sealant is the key.
