When boiling a carb to remove varnish, oil deposits from the jets. Does the carb need to be disassembled or can it be boiled as a complete unit?
Thanks in Advance for any info.!!!

Boiling may be the wrong thing. You can use some berrymans chemdip, but make sure you have all plastic removed or it will eat it up to mush. Chemdip is water rinsable but sure is stinky and burns like hell if ya get it on ya. It might be just as good if not better to dissasemble the carb completely including the main jets and needle screws. And any other items that allow access to be able to spray with that little straw thingy that comes along with aerosol carb cleaners. Sometimes it will require a small item to get into the little holes on the jets and such to get the little chuncks out of there. ( I use some root canal files I got from a dentist) be carefull when mechanically probing the jets and orafices not to distort their size or shape. Blow out the passageways with compressed air, and follow with the carb cleaner again observing that the spray will actually flow through the passages, blow out again with air, and re-assemble

Completely disassemble, which includes removing any soft plugs.

Re: Boiling a Carb.

why go to the expense of berrymens parts dip... most carbs I have found on boats are in pretty good shape... get some hi-test (AMOCO premium) fuel & put in bucket... tear carb completely apart & soak overnight... should be fine... as you do not get a lot of dirt, etc on a boat like you do in a car/truck. Make sure you have a brass float in present carb... if not order from parts house... one of the best investments you can make in carb rebuild...

What kind of carb are you rebuilding???

fone_man
