I am new to boating. I see other people driving there boats all the way up on there trailers even gunning there motors to get all the way up on the trailer. Is this hard on there motors. Or should the prop be sized so that it will not bog the motor down to fare even if the boat don’t move. My motor will bog down and die if I try to run it up with out the boat moving.

It is common to power up on the trailer.

The furthur up you get under power is that much less winching you have to do (which could be substantial with larger boats). Plus, the boat is a little better under control (usually) once on the trailer.

Since you are basically pushing water, even if your boat is not moving, your engine should not bog down to the point of dying. Maybe something else going on there.

I have another post called” Why must my motor warm up first? “maybe the two are related.
