boggs out at idle speed

when i have my motor running at idle speed it like to bogg out, what can i do to prevent this? also when i go to accelerate it takes a few sec to respond and when it does respond it gains speed slowly, does any one think that the gas i am using might be the problem or maybee the throttle cable?? I dont know what i should try

It is a 1979 100 hp johnson model# 100ml79s and it is on a 17ft gypsy star
