1988 omc 4.3l gm..........running recommended plugs at recomended gap (.035).
changed plugs a couple weeks ago after at 75percent rpm's of engine under load, it would bog down, sounding and smelling like flooding. ran great for two more weeks and is happening again. i use for trolling mostly and open rpm just for in and out to fish location. does anyone have any suggestions as to why this is happening, is there a different (hotter plug to use) or could it be an octane fuel problem.......please help.
donzeed

DONZEED,

I'm no expert, but I am having the same trouble. Actually, I didn't start having this problem until a buddy of mine adjusted the timing for me last weekend. It turns out that I have a bad tachometer. Therefore, when my friend set my timing to the recommended rpms it ended up not being set correctly. The result was the same problem you're having. For me the fix may be simple. I'm just going to take my boat out and have someone drive it while I turn the distributer until I reach a point to where the timing has the engine running at an optimum level.

Your problem may be just as simple as adjusting your timimg. Then again, I'm no expert.

Sorry, I don't have any books at home to check. If you have a standard point & cond ing sys try changeing the condencer. It may be breaking down at high RPM.
