Bogging acceleration

Hi guys, new to the forum but trying to chase some info. Currently own a 2008 Tahoe q7i 5.0l carby model boat over here in Australia. Love the boat has never caused me any issue until the last two times I have used it. Starts and idles fine, takes off slow speed etc fine, though once trying to pull a wake boarder or skier on initial take off it seems to bog, even sounds like a misfire/exhaust leak and just takes a bit longer to get up onto the plain.
So a few things I have possibly done to cause this to myself but not sure where to start.
Friend on the boat dropped some food on the boat which blocked the drain plug in the floor above the fuel tank. Didn’t realise the drain went down and 90 degrees to a hose so I pushed a straight small spike down the middle through the bottom, now wondering if I punctured the fuel tank and getting water in the fuel. Also last time got a rope wrapped around the prop which shut the motor down but that was removed easily and started straight up and didn’t seem to cause any issues since. Can hear a ticking noise near the rear of the motor near the starter motor also which I haven’t noticed before.
All oil and service up to date and checked etc.
Thanks for any help and advice appreciate it

Welcome, I moved you from FAQ to the Merc section. Don't post in the FAQ area

Is this a Merc or VP?

Doubt if a stick punctured the tank but checking the filter will verify. Pull the fuel filter and dump the contents into a clear container. You should see nothing but clean gas

Has the outdrive gear lube been changed and the gimbal bearing check for smoothness?

Thank you, it’s a mercruiser.
Have just checked the fuel filter and littler filter going in carby, no water present so I haven’t damaged the tank and no water involved. Just about to pull the prop off and inspect

With it bogging you probably need a carb rebuild. Get number off carb and get a kit. If you know the motor serial number we could look up the parts

Most likely debris in the accelerator pump circuit. Get a carb kit, pull the carb and go thru it

sure sounds like you have water in the fuel..
Check the fuel filter for water after letting it settle in a glass. You'll need to get the carb off her too, for a proper clean.
Is she a TKS carb model ? Check that the TKS system isn't causing issue too, but that usually causes a bogging over fuelling result mostly. Very obvious signs and smell to her usually too.

Thanks mate, fuel is clean no water, carby was taken off yesterday pulled apart and cleaned and rebuilt. Ticking noice found the exhaust gasket gone so fixed that. Won’t know if it runs better until I can get it out again now.
Thanks guys
