Thought I would pass on my little horror story. I was launching my boat by myself at a new launch for me on the Fraser River. The launch is not a good launch but it is free. Limited parking and a natural ramp. There are lots of hollows at the end of the ramp where the #^$%%!*&^ jet boaters pin the throttles to land their rigs and dig big holes in the river bank. So I have offered to take a friend of a friend sturgeon fishing and i am running a bit late. I hit the launch line before a few other guys but I am by myself. I un hook everything and and back the truck down into the river. The boat does not come free and I notice I am at abad angle for launching and the boat is not coming of the trailer. So I disengage the winch lock to try and move the boat. Sickday does not want to move so I figure that I am in the wrong position and I need t move. So i pull the truck up an reposition. Problem is that I forgot to secure the winch!!!. As the trailer drops into the jet wash hole the boat falls back and the winch cable spins like crazy and then I see the bow sticking up in the air like it is a space shuttle. Cool! Not! Lcuily there was no damage and some great guys helped me put her back on the trailer. I relaunched and then had agreat day sturgeon fishing.

ouch, not a position you want your boat in!

(also, that washout probably isn't from jetboats. Its from people powerloading with ANY boat. Props tend to wash out ramps faster than jets anyway, the prop is much closer to the bottom)

There is one good thing that came from this...

You learned a lesson.
I bet you'll never leave the winch disengaged.

I remember reading on this site about plugging the hole in the boat. That vary same day I took my cousin out. As we are launching he says to me, "Is there suppose to be water in the boat?"
