Not sure which section to put this in.

I received a letter today from [boats ,dot, net] saying they're site along with partszilla were hacked. A piece of malware was installed on they're shopping cart and collected info including names, addresses, phone numbers, credit card numbers, expiration dates, and CVV numbers.

It states they strongly suggest to change CC numbers and place a freeze on credit reports.

Didn't see this posted here so I figured I would give a heads up.

I will probably upload a redacted copy of the letter later today when I get home. A quick search will turn up many articles also.

Definitely.

I just wish iboats would cary more stuff. Alot of the times what I need isn't carried by iboats which means having to go elsewhere. And after iboats boats net is usually cheaper. But you get what you pay for I guess. Boats net seems like an unorganized mess. Every order I do through them seems to confirm that. But sometimes there is no choice. Especially with OMC parts.

I'll post this here again - build a decent search engine. The only way that I can buy from iBoats is if I look up the part number on someone elses site.

If possible, it would be great to add a way to store certain redundant information with my account. For example: when I go to some autoparts sites, they store the year, make and model of my car so I don't have to reload it every time. I can even store a couple of vehicles in there and then just swap them in a drop down when I'm hunting car parts.

Connected with Oldjeep's idea, if you can store the year, make and model of my drive the convenience factor goes WAY up.

Thanks for listening to suggestions.

To combine both thread topics, all ecommerce purveyors are subject to increasingly more sophisticated and persistent hacking. It happens to the most seasoned institutions including the major credit card companies, banks, retailers, paypal, etc. It is a requisite best practice for iboats to stay focused on security, as it is not necessesarily a matter of if, but when.

I've not used that site. Although I too have to use another site for finding engine parts, marine engines dot com, their parts search interface along with exploded view diagrams is hands down the easiest for me to use.

baylinerownersclub.org was also hacked and has been down for a week. They are trying their best to get it back up, Seems like the hackers are after the boats forums for some reason..?

You might wonder if the hackers think boaters might have an extra a thousand to loose, but the targets are likely opportunistic. They scan around for any e-commerse website that has a vulnerability and will exploit any that they can get CC numbers or other information from. There are basic security requirements specified by the Payment Card Industry (PCI), but mistakes or flaws still occur. Just be sure to report any suspect charges as soon as they are recognized, and there is limited liability to card holders.

Use different passwords at each site you use. If they get info for one account, they will try to access others too.
