I hope this is ok to post here, let me know if it's not and I'll delete it.

After two incidents of boat damage done by my dad in a short period of time, I decided to start a site to document it:

http://boatsmydadhasruined.tumblr.com/

Thought you would enjoy it and perhaps have some submissions of your own to share!!

Where are the ruined boats? Some love. I hope you never damage a boat. One heck of a first post.

I think it is kind of funny... I did a number on my prop last Sunday...I can laugh about it... If my daugter had been aboard , she would have had my approval to post a pic on that site... :D

Not sure what the 1st one even means - what happened to the hatch?

And neither is ruined - pretty minor damage

I can sympathize... my dad's a breaker. Makes me worry about when we get the boat finished.

The glass hatch shattered in the first one.

Individually: minor damage. But boats get ruined by little things like this over time when they keep happening. This is how breakers ruin stuff. I think both photos of damage were on the same boat.

I see that it shattered, but why?

My guess is, after they got underway, it got caught by the wind over the bow, and then got planted against the windscreen center frame. The hatch then flexed, shattering the tempered glass. Looking at the way the glass shattered into little cubes, it sure looks like tempered glass. Just a guess, though.

Yep, that's exactly what happened.

And it's true, that the boat isn't TOTALLY ruined yet, but I was inspired by the site http://www.****mykidsruined.com/ ;)

I'm sure that if I drove the boat I would ruin it a bit too :D This is all meant in good humor.

Re: Boats my dad has ruined

In my world, for many years, Dads buy and maintain boats, seldom use them, and the children who do alwys do damage ranging from the cosmetic to the spectacular*. Just like cars.

I learned boating originally from my dad, who was not a natural boater** but tried, and my mother, who had salt water for blood. I learned more boating by sailing, and from my friends and their fathers. dad wasn't the best boater but he was committed to always having a motor boat for us and a row boat for Mom.

So boatdaughter you don't say how old you are or what your boating skills are, but give him a break. Or show us you earned the right to poke fun, or that it is all in fun.

*Guy showing off pulls away from the gas dock at WOT. The bow on the 15' tri hull rises, and when it falls, he sees the side hull of an anchored 40' trimeran. He drilled into it solid. Friends with a 135 HP, the biggest motor made at the time, couldn't pull it out. The best part was calling his dad at work about it.

**He grew up in East Tennessee before they had motor boats and then in a city. He first did some boating and beach time on Iwo Jima. Being the typically smart-aleck son I always gave him a hard time about his "Tennessee yacht knots." I miss him.

This post was worth it just for the link. I don't think there's any disrespect here, but a healthy humor. I'd suspect from the OP's posts that Dad has a bit of a sense of humor about this as well.
I loved and respected my Dad, but he had some epic fail moments. Sometimes, Mom and I had a hard time keeping straight faces.

If there is one of us here who has not made a boo-boo to our boats, they are either lying or have never boated.
