I was looking at getting me a boat for wakeboarding for a beginer to inertmediates. What I am wondering if what kind of fuel comsuption most wakeboard boats get. What is considered good in the wakeboard world 5 gallons an hour? Are there anyboats taht stand out from the crowd good or bad?

Re: Boats fuel economy

I am not really sure about other boats, but the ones I have ridden behind (A Malibu Wakesetter and a Mastercraft Air Nautique) have all been about the same. Close to $50 for a couple of hours worth of riding. That was when gas was $3.00/gallon. We always have each person bring minimum 10 gal to the boat when we go ride. That way, eveyone pretty pays for their own sets. But, they do get expensive.

I think you'll find they will all be gas guzzlers. It takes a lot of power to push a big wake. If you want fuel efficiency you need a smaller, lighter boat which will have a smaller wake.

Well, for most beginner to intermediate boarding, you dont need a huge wake anyway. Until you get to raileys, backrolls, and 540s, you wont really need to dramatic of a wake.

Any decent 19' - 22' with a tower will do.

I just checked some test results at BoatTest that indicate 5 GPH is probably about right for wakeboard speed in a 20 foot v-drive, 340 bhp . . . but that doesn't take in to account when you punch it to get them out and when you punch it to go back to pick them up, and when are you are going any faster than 20ish . . .

I did find one that used almost twice that  Individual results may vary . . .

I found similar results to around 5 gph with the 320 monson motors. I was looking at the yamaha 212x and found that it got 7 ish gph. 5 gph is reasonable I would say if gas doesn't get up again. It is right around 1.70 now. thanks for the input.
