There are real benefits of fussing over your boat. Real time for the confidence and security of having a boat that will get you home every time. Long term so when you're ready to move up you have a valuable boat to sell.

All that fussing, buffing, updating, maintaining paid off for me today. I got my Craigslist ask eight days after posting. The result was 50 percent over the dealer's trade in offer, and a happy new owner for my 24 yr old Larson.

I'll go without a boat until next spring when I take delivery on a new one. ....although I did stiff my son who comes to our place each Labor Day with his buds. Priorities.

That is why you should have several boats . . .

I am considering selling my boat (the 33 footer), but I need to get closer to being able to buy my next boat (cash). Still might be a couple of years. So, I don't want to do without a 'big boat' that long . . .

Doing some armchair shopping though . . . which is fun :) . . . 38 footer w/ Triple outboards ???

Meanwhile, I got a Boston Whaler and a Sunfish to use . . . and I have a 19 foot sailboat (O'Day Mariner) that I am re-building.

harringtondav - you mentioned a 'new' boat . . . brand new or new to you? What you thinking of getting? :noidea:

My early years of my life were in Two Rivers Wisconsin. they used to have bathtub races on the river every spring. literally an old bathtub, some rope, a few pieces of plywood and a 10hp outboard......

Dad ran one with a shower curtain ring and the shower head turned backwards so it would spray (like a rooster tail)

you can be creative to get on the water if need be

New Regal 1900ES. It will cure my 2footitus by an extra 9", although it has a longer swim platform, so I'll say two feet. Wider beam, 6-700# heavier dry, 60 more hp with the 4.3 VP 240. We're moving up now because the Larson still had good resale, and we're tired of getting beat to death with weekend boat waves.

I'll order it for spring delivery. Now that I have cash instead of a trade in, I'll grind as hard a possible on price.
ps: per Scott Danforth's earlier comment, I have a 17' Grumman alum. canoe w/Merc 4 hp 'Gnat' on a side mount. But I'm elbow deep in a basement remodel, so I can live w/o a real boat till spring. ...the son basically hung up on me when I told him his annual Labor Day weekend w/pals would be boatless
