Boatist,,I talked to a couple of Party boat captains, of course they were for furuno, but they also said for smaller boats that fish the delta, bays and some off shore, they felt Lowrance was the better one, especially for price and dependability. They gave some recommendations, so I went to Dixon and bought a LCX-27C Sonar/GPS Chartplotter Combo. I asked if they had cards for the bay area, they only had one, and used it as a demo. he said since they've used it, he;d give it to me for free. I got the 200Khz transducer, later I may get another as you suggested for deep sea, if this one don't get down. Since they are changing all the fishing regulations, time I get out, they probably won't allow any fishing. Thanks for everyones help....

The LCX27 C is a great choice. As long as can only fish 30 Fatoms or 180 feet you will never need the 50 KHZ transducer.
I also have felt Lowrance was the best unit for Shallow salt water. Your unit has plenty of power for even beyond 200 feet. Also has good resolution for out to 200 feet. You may also want to buy a Second SD card to save your track logs to. They are real cheap for a 1 GIG SD card, I got mine for $16.
Wow you can not beet the price of your map card.
Barry Cantabera party boat skipper of fishing fools 4 uses a very simular Lowrance unit and he works waters form Rio Vista to the Farllons, for Stripper, Sturgeon, Halibut and Salmon.

I have also bought gear in Dixon. I forgot the name of the place. Is it GONE FISHIN?

Yes, it was Gone Fishin, I had my outdrive pulled to replace bellows etc. in Vallejo. They charged me 300.00 to remove the outdrive,,,When I went to Gone Fishing, they have a special on for 175.00. Oh, well. They also work on boats older then 10yrs. All the other boat service places around here only work on boats less than 10yrs.. its closer than vallejo and Martinez, I will be going back,,they have a lot of stuff and friendly. They have a good website. I will get another SD card, don't forget I'm new to this Gps stuff, in a nutshell, what do I do, put it in when I want to save a location?

I would just put it in the second card slot next to your map card. You can save your track points and then start over. I belive you can also back up your waypoints to the card. You may have one trip to the Farllons that you would like to review before your next trip. Then may go to San Pablo for sturgeon or Stripers that you would like to save seperate. I belive you can even save your depth finder returns to the card as well so you can review what a school of stripers looked like or show others. I have not yet used my card much as need to buy Lowrances LEI card reader so can transfer waypoints to the computer to name and print easier than doing in the unit. Also for me to transfer MapCreate 7 charts to the unit for use. Since you got a map you will not need to transfer charts. My portable H2O C can use cards up to 1 Giga Bytes but can get cards up to 8 Giga Bytes so may want to check with Lowrance what the largest you can use is before your buy one.
