The recent Boating Movies thread got me thinking about my favorite Boating Songs...

I'll get the ball rolling here...

"Drive" by Alan Jackson. Vividly protrays that first time you're allowed to take the wheel.

"Boats to Build" by Jimmy Buffet and Alan Jackson.

"Riverboat Fantasy" by David Wilcox.

"Excursion Around the Bay" by Great Big Sea.

"A Boat Like Gideon Brown" by Great Big Sea.

"I'se The B'y" by Great Big Sea.

"The Siren" by Jay Nash.

"Whiskey & Fish" by Joe Purdy.

"If I Had A Boat" by Lyle Lovett.

Re: Boating Songs

Hi Chuck,
I don't have these as MP3s. I'm sure most of them are available at I-tunes, etc. These are all songs I've got on various CDs...

Re: Boating Songs

I would say pretty much anything by Jimmy Buffet. Lately, I've had "Treat Her Like a Lady" stuck in my head.

"I been too long on the mainland
Hotels, rental cars and phones
Time to cast them aside, catch the very next tide
And go back where belong"

One more song from Jay Nash - "Labor Day Blues (How the River Rolls)". If you've ever sat on the shore and gazed out over the water, sought solice in the sound of the waves, or drifted in bay on a quiet night when the stars seemed so close you could touch them, you'll see yourself in this song...

Row row row your boat, gently down the stream...merrily merrily merrily merrily, life is but a dream...

Re: Boating Songs

The one by Brad Paisley that goes something like this, "Well I'm gonna miss her, but right now, I've got a bite."

More fishing related, but for many of us, there is no boating, without having fishing involved.

I absolutely love anything by Jimmy Buffet and/or Alan Jackson.
Drive is real high up the list too.

Re: Boating Songs

My trusty Eagle Magna III locator has three built in tunes. Anchors Away gets a laugh every time I leave the dock. God Bless America is cool and the third is a God awful electronic jibberish that goes on for a couple of minutes.

Re: Boating Songs

My favorite boating songs are the ones favored by the sailing ships during the civil war era. They were more like rants and very moving with heart felt emotions in regard to the country at war.

Stan Rogers
-Mary Ellen Carter
-Wreck of the Athens Queen

I can not emphasize enough for those out there who have never heard this guy (now dead) and who like great traditional folk songs particularly of the sea and the working life around it.
Surf a few tunes (like those above) off the net....tell me if you like it.
This guy had a way with maritime stories in his music and believe I'm just barely touching on his stuff with this reference.
Check it out....you'll enjoy it.

Re: Boating Songs

When you have the throttle to the wall at 60+:cool:
Kenny Loggins - Danger Zone
Revvin' up your engine
Listen to her howlin' roar
Metal under tension
Beggin' you to touch and go
Highway to the Danger Zone
Ride into the Danger Zone
Headin' into twilight
Spreadin' out her wings tonight
She got you jumpin' off the track
And shovin' into overdrive
Highway to the Danger Zone
I'll take you
Right into the Danger Zone
You'll never say hello to you
Until you get it on the red line overload
You'll never know what you can do
Until you get it up as high as you can go
Out along the edges
Always where I burn to be
The further on the edge
The hotter the intensity
Highway to the Danger Zone
Gonna take you
Right into the Danger Zone
Highway to the Danger Zone
