what side does the red buoy and green buoy go when you are going north and when you are going south?

Re: boating rules

The bouys don't mark direction in North and South per se

Always remeber:

RED - RIGHT - RETURN.

Going down stream/out into open water, you will have the green bouys on your right and red on your left. Upstream/returning from open water is obviously the opposite. If you live in along a southern coast then you can assume that upstream will be north and downstream south

Re: boating rules

This may not apply to where you're at but Red right return dosn't work if you're in the ICW or if you're in a channel junction. Generally the red will be inland for ICW with green cans or square LED's will be on the ocean side. The rest of the time red right return works well.
