Put wheels on it and go wind sailing on the desert to the west.

Long way for any lakes.

Uh yeah there are 3 lakes within an hour, Pleasant to the North, Canyon and Saguaro to the east, another Hour and you can add Apache and Roosevelt both to the east and they are bigger then the previous three. Its pretty common for folks to think theres no lakes in the desert but truth be known there is a heck of alot more boatable Surface Water in Arizona then there is here in Colorado!!

Each of these lakes are huge by Colorado Standards! Add to that the longer Boating season and I think you will be very happy there.

Think of it this way, Phoenix and its suburbs have grown into one of the larger metropolitan areas in the U.S.. Giant cities the size of Phoenix require massive amounts of water to supply critical services to its citizens. How is it possible for the Phoenix metro area to sustain its water needs in the middle of the desert? The answer - a massive system of lakes that store snow melt off from the surrounding mountains, and a canal system that brings Colorado river water across the state. Add that together and you are left with a lot boating surface in the desert, and hundreds of warm sunny days. Additionally, Phoenix has a solid service support environment so that all maintenance needs can be met.
