We have talked about taking a vacation to the Gulf and I wonder if it is a good idea to bring the boat. Its a 19ft bow rider. are there places I can cruse around and swim safely? That aren't overcrowded? I am very Leary not knowing the area.

I can remember my dad taking out a 17ft flat bottom when i was very young but ask mom about it and it still pisses her off cuz he almost didn't come back. He is not smart though and probably went where he shouldn't have because it looked fun.

any advice is greatly appreciated

In which part of the GOM are you thinking of boating? A bowrider is suitable for some parts of the GOM coast and totally unfit for others.

I don't know. We were thinking about visiting corpus and mustang island. We live in Texas and have family in Houston. Which parts would be best suited for our boat?

Corpus Christi Bay is well protected and boating to Mustang Island should be fine with a bowrider.

Awesome :D do you know of particularly calm spots where we could pull up on the beach for a little lunch and exploring, are spots like that easy to find? I really wish I knew someone that knew the area.

That I can't help you with, DXN. It's been years since I boated in that area and hurricanes/storms cause so many changes. Hope some current South Texas coastal boaters chime in.
