I am thinking about a taking a mid-week day trip to Portland this Summer. I plan to trailer the boat, launch in the AM near or in Portland, cruise 100 miles or so while making a few stops at interesting local tie-ups and finish the day toward dusk back at the launch ramp.
I'd like advice on the best place to launch for someone coming from the south on the turnpike and heading west on 302 at the end of the day. I'd also like recommendations for interesting places to tie up and explore/eat a good meal.
Last year we did a similar day trip to Narragansett Bay. We launched in Fall River, had lunch in Newport, ice cream in Wickford and covered about 90 miles of water exploring the bay. Prior to that trip we did a day trip exploring Newburyport, Portsmouth, and The Isles of Shoals. Most of the time we boat in fresh water though.
