1999 tige with mercruiser 5.7. Went to lake and rode around for an hour or so. Shut down and anchored for another hour or so. Turned key on and check beep as usual. Turned key to start and something clicked in engine compartment then silence. Nothing worked. I turned on the blower switch and it came on then tried the key again and again a click followed by silence. Flipped the fan switch off and back on and the fan started. Then tried starting the engine which did start. No more problems the rest of the day.
thought the circuit breaker may be the culprit but the button is firm and won’t push in at all. Also never heard of one resetting itself

Ideas welcome tia.

as indicated above, you have a bad connection somewhere between the battery and the motor. check both positive and ground cables, starter connections, etc. clean every connection shiny enough your mother-in-law would eat off them. when you think you cleaned them enough, clean them some more. if the battery cable insulation is missing or the cable looks bad. replace it. when everything is clean and tight, then seal the connections with marine electrical varnish.
