BOAT WOULD NOT LAUNCH

Did I do this?
I had a new trailer made last summer. Took it to lake and the old boat unloaded
just fine.
Then, during the winter I put about half of cup of silicon gel on a small crack in the
boat. I put this silicon on every year. I put both in and on the outside of the boat.
The place I put the silicon is about 4 inches from the bunk.
Now last week, I took boat to launch. It would not come off trailer. We tried the
motor to back off, we tried the hit the brakes and let it slide off, but it would not
release.
Two of us finally waded out and pushed it off. Then I saw a glob of silicon on the
the end of one of the bunk carpet.
This is a 800# 16 john boat with 25 HP Merc.
Question: Did that silicon glue the boat to the trailer?

Please advise.

nomoe99

If you are going to glue your trailer to the boat you need to get a bigger boat and run in deeper water :D

The glue is a better excuse than leaving the straps connected. Heck, I've heard and read about people screwing their boats to the bunks when using long screws to install floors.

Silicone is an excellant adhesive as well as a sealant. Doesn't surprise me that it would stick a boat to the trailer under certain circumstances.

Another question. Someone told me to go to Bass Pro and buy "Slip Sticks" (?) and put on bunks but I read here that they do not work with aluminum boats, What say you?

nomoe99

Just go to your local auto parts or hardware store and get some spray silicone. Apply it liberally to the bunks when they are dry (after a day of boating, but prior to retrieval). Lots cheaper and works great.

I put a product called Glyde Sliks on my trailer last year and have been really happy with how they work. Aluminum boat. See some of my other posts in this forum for more details.
