Here's just one story of many. After 50 years of boating you would think I would know better?- Just bought a new boat, and trailer. At ramp trying to get boat off of trailer, no good. BOAT LIKE TO KILL ME PUSHING OFF? Fish all day, come back to ramp , and try to load, same ting. After much back breaking labor, check rollers, and find out marina people that adjusted trailer overtightened rollers! So who's the DOPE???

Re: Boat wont slide?

Launching my P-14, an old school fiberglass runnabout, my first trailer boat. I invited two local kids for a boat ride. I was backing in slowly, cause trailers were new to me, when one of the kids went to trailer and released the winch. My rollers worked great and the boat went off the trailer and onto the pavement. It was semi-balanced on the trailer so, like a fool, I hooked the wench back up and and pulled the rollers right thru the bottom of the boat. Oh the joys of boat ownership.

maui girl,

OH SURE " The kid did it!" That had to be some thin or brittle glass on that boat.

Late 70's I had a 56 glass Crosby and I don't think you could have put a bullet through it.

I bet your heart sank seeing that! Ever take those kids out?

Good story :)

Re: Boat wont slide?

I take full responsibility; in fact, I’m embarrassed that I let a kid near my trailer. The seven year old was trying to tell me his bro had unhooked the winch, but his Pidgin English was incomprehensible, so I just smiled. When he said, “I told you so” I could understand perfectly.
Yes, the glass was brittle, as it had been sitting in the Lahaina sun since the seventies.
I had that bugger flipped over and fixed within a week. The boys’ uncle decided to take it out, without asking, and did the same thing again.
I’ve fixed up and sold a couple small boats since then. My latest is a 57 Yellow Jacket with a 57 Merc Thunderbolt on it. Another $100,00 wonder, the motor has compression and all the harnesses and controls are there. Could be a beauty, bat wings and all.
I don’t think those kids ever did get off shore.
