Boat won't go...

So I have a problem... I tried to take my boat (16 ft fiberglass with evinrude 135 outboard) out today, didn't work so good. I got it in the lake good got it started and let it warm up. It was ideling ok but as soon as I would try to take off it wanted to stall on me. After about 5 re-starts it stopped stalling on me but when I tried to take off it barely would go. I had the throttle all the way forward and was going about 5. It wasn't revving up so it wasnt slipping in gear, it was just like the throttle cable was loose or something. I put a brand new batch of fuel in it, and I noticed my tach doesn't work either. Anyone have an idea what could be the problem?

it could be lots of things. First inspect the throttle cable to make sure the carbs open wide and the ign timing advances when you push the throttle. if that is OK, taks a compression test and see that you have spark on all cylinders. Post the results.

I would suspect a bad power pack.

If the boat is new to you, It may just need some servicing.

Check compression on all cylinders

Check spark on all cylinders

report back to this thread with your findings and we will go from there.

Chances are it needs to have the carbs cleaned and rebuilt but check the above first.

kinda pissed... i dropped it at the shop on thursday. They said they would go through everything and have it back friday morning. I just called and apparently they got busy (there were only 2 other boats there) and they wont have a chance to look at it until monday or tuesday.

I am having same problem with my Johnson Seahorse 115 V4.... I am going to check the same if you all don't mind assisting me as well.

I just got a call from the shop. Turns out the carbs need to be rebuilt and I need a new choke solenoid. Should have it back in a couple days. Hopefully that's all that's wrong with it
